How to Close your Course to Students (Gloucester)

Gloucester Campus

NEW - Beginning Winter 2023

Beginning Winter 2023, courses will be loaded with a course start date and a course end date, and courses will close to students on the Course End Date. This means if you would like your course to remain open to students beyond the course end date, you will need to adjust the date. Additionally, if you have a student who needs to finish out an incomplete, you should contact elearning@rcsj.edu so we can ensure the student has access to the course.

To change your course's End Date to allow students to retain access to your course, go into the course and navigate to COURSE MANAGEMENT >> Control Panel >> Customization >> Properties and navigate to the "Set Course Duration" area. You will see the imported dates listed, and you can adjust them as you like.

For All Semesters Prior to Winter 2023

Courses are automatically made available to students on the first day of classes for a given term, but courses are not automatically closed to students at the end of a semester. If you want to prevent students from accessing your course until you’re ready, or if you want to prevent students from accessing your course at the end of a semester, visit the Control Panel of your course and click on Customization and then Properties.

Under the second option called Set Availability, choose No and then click the submit button.

When you visit the My Institution or My Courses tab and look at the My Courses module, you should see a note beside the course saying it is unavailable.

You will still have access to this course as an instructor, but students will not have access to the course. When you’re ready for your students to have access to the course, just go back and change the availability to Yes or Use Term Availability.
